On this page we hope to keep you posted with interesting happenings at our school

Interesting happening number 1....May 1998

Ysgol Llanddulas has been playing to host to two Australian visitors brought to them by the power of the Internet.

" We got an email a few months ago from Brisbane-based teacher Lindy Holmes complimenting us on our web site," explained Mr. Lavelle, Deputy Head at the school.

" She told us that our pages on Wales and the tourist sites in the area had impressed her so much that she was going to detour to the Principality on a forth coming holiday"

Year 5 and 6 pupils, who created and maintain the website, were so flattered by her comments that they decided to invite Lindy to visit them in person.

Lindy and her husband Barry spent an afternoon touring the school and entertaining the children with tales of life ‘Down-Under’. Mr. Lavelle’s class were enthralled by tales of the mosquito ridden mangrove fringed Russel Island where Lindy teaches and bombarded her with questions about sharks, spiders, snakes and of course ‘Neighbours’!

It is hoped to develop a regular electronic link to Russell Island School to add to the many global links already established at Ysgol Llanddulas

Interesting happening number 2....June 1998

Pupils of Ysgol LLanddulas have been taking trips of locally based childrens author Catherine Robinson.

Catherine visited classes throughout the school as part of a art and literature project funded by the school and the arts council for Wales.

She worked on story writing technique with the children and showed them how her own published works envolved from hand written manuscripts to glossy hand back now translated into many languages.

Pictured here (with Catherine Robinson) are some of the budding authors from year 5 and 6 getting their noses stuck into a selection of Catherine's books
